The Shape of Water (2017)
I think The Shape of Water is one of the most beautiful love stories ever told — not because it’s perfect, but because it’s strange and sincere. It’s set in the 1960s, where Elisa, a mute cleaning woman, falls in love with a mysterious aquatic creature kept in a government lab.
What could have been bizarre ends up feeling deeply human. Guillermo del Toro turns what sounds like a monster story into a fairytale about compassion, difference, and connection. The colors, the music, the soft sadness of it all — everything feels drenched in longing.
Elisa’s quiet bravery reminds me that love doesn’t need to be loud to be real. Sometimes it’s found in stolen moments, shared silences, and the courage to reach across what separates us.
⭐ 5/5 — A haunting, tender fairytale about love in its purest, strangest form.
