Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Vol. 1: Dawn – Yoshiki Tanaka (ANIME)

This is basically Game of Thrones in space — but with more politics, strategy, and long speeches about the nature of freedom. It’s slow in the best way — like watching history unfold while sipping espresso at the end of the galaxy. Reinhard and Yang Wen-li are two of the best-written rivals in sci-fi history.

I finished this and immediately saluted my bookshelf.
