Galaxy Quest (1999)

Before The Orville and long before Reddit started arguing about canon, there was Galaxy Quest — the most lovingly chaotic love letter to sci-fi fandom ever filmed. It’s part Star Trek spoof, part space adventure, and somehow manages to be both hilarious and genuinely moving.

A washed-up cast from a canceled space show gets mistaken for real heroes by actual aliens. Cue panic, bad acting, and one gloriously ridiculous rescue mission. Alan Rickman steals the show, Sigourney Weaver yells about repeating the computer, and the whole thing lands perfectly between parody and praise.

It’s got heart, laughs, and laser beams — basically the BigKahuna trifecta.
