Enchanted (2007)
Every now and then, a movie comes along that winks at the genre it loves — and Enchanted does exactly that. It’s Disney poking gentle fun at its own fairy-tale formula while still delivering all the sparkle, music, and romance that make those stories irresistible.
Amy Adams is the heart of it all as Giselle, a storybook princess accidentally dropped into modern-day New York. Watching her try to apply fairy-tale logic to subway life is pure delight — she’s wide-eyed but never foolish, kind but not naïve. The film works because it never sneers at sincerity; it celebrates it. You can laugh at the talking animals and the impromptu musical numbers, but by the end, you kind of want to believe again too.
The mix of live-action and animation gives it an old-meets-new charm, and the soundtrack is peak Disney magic — playful, self-aware, and catchy enough to stay in your head for days. It’s a story about growing up without losing your sense of wonder, and that’s a message that never really ages.
Smart, sparkly, and surprisingly heartfelt — a love letter to happily-ever-afters (with a wink).
