A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge (1992)

An interstellar internet, zones of thought, and alien civilizations built around collective minds — this is big-idea sci-fi at its best. Vinge’s imagination feels limitless, yet grounded in human emotion. The aliens are more believable than most human characters in lesser books. A dense but exhilarating masterpiece.
